Women's Winter Golf Gear

New portrait.jpeg

Fall and winter golf has a special place in my heart. The chilly morning that warms up and makes you want to stay out the whole day. The pleasure of the sun and the trees. The warm beverage afterwards. It is all yum to me!

There are a few favorites that I’d like to share with you so you can enjoy golf to the fullest this time of year. The right gear helps. Please note this is NOT a sponsored post.

Here’s what you need:

Shoes

The mesh summer golf shoes won’t cut it anymore. You will get wet and slip in the damp morning grass. You need better shoes that will keep you dry and comfortable.

FootJoy DryJoy

This is my favorite shoe. If you don’t like white shoes, you can personalize these as well! I create a new color combination each year.

Highly recommend and a great gift too. Another great feature is that these shoes are available in narrow, medium and wide.

Clothing

I prefer to dress in layers. It will keep you warmer and it allows you to take layers off and stay comfortable as the day warms up.

I prefer a lightweight long sleeve shirt as a baselayer. Over the years, I’ve tried many things, but the best to me is a thin wool layer. I get mine at REI. Similar HERE. You might ask why I don’t like a cotton layer- too bulky and sweaty. And polyester (or dry-fit like Nike calls it) gets stinky fast.

Next I usually wear either a short sleeve polo or a long-sleeve polo depending on the forecast.

Over that a sweater or a half-zip shirt. Here’s my current favorite sweater. It is supersoft and roomy so I don’t feel like a sausage.

And lastly, a vest. You want to make sure it is warm, but not bulky- especially in the sides. Patagonia makes my favorite one and this one is nice too.

I don’t know about you, but I used to struggle with golf pants a lot. Khakis are not for me, and I can’t just pop by my mom’s and ask her to sew me custom pants like I once used to. When you play golf, you need pockets. I prefer front AND back pockets, and that was hard to find until I tried Athleta. Their Brooklyn pant has been really great, and this season they made them LINED. Amazing and warm.

Headwear

If it is cold in the morning, I opt for a beanie. Or if it is not too cold, I wear a regular golf hat and a headband.

Growing up in Sweden, I learned that a lot of heat escapes through your head. That’s why you might want to consider a warm knitted hat. My favorite one is fleece-lined. Similar HERE.

Gloves

I used to play in some really cold weather and had such big mittens I could put handwarmers inside. You might not need those but I would still recommend handwarmers in each of your pockets. Warm golf balls fly farther;)

Otherwise, you might like these gloves from FootJoy. It depends if you value feeling your fingers vs a little extra bulk.

Golf Bag

It is a lot nicer to walk and carry your bag when it is cold than to ride in a cart. If you want to carry your bag, I’d recommend a really light bag. Sun Mountain has a great one here and here, and so does Titleist and Ping. If your course is not walkable, put a blanket down on the seat of the cart. You will thank me later.

For me, a pull cart is my best friend if I’m playing a somewhat flat course. If you want to get your own, here’s a couple of options: Sun Mountain, & Clic Gear. Here’s an article that reviews several options.

Ok, I think that’s it for now! Enjoy and stay warm!
